English Language Arts – Sec 1 – 2
Literary appreciation and the ability to communicate effectively will be promoted through reading, writing and oral response to texts studied during the year. There will be a focus on vocabulary development, language skills and response writing.
English Language Arts – Sec 3
Students will be exposed to the major genres in English literature: the short story, poetry, a Shakespeare play, the essay, and other non-fiction. Emphasis will be on reading, speaking, and writing skills, as well as developing analytical and critical thinking skills.
English Language Arts – Sec 4
Students will continue to be exposed to important authors and to the major genres in English literature: the short story, poetry, the essay, and other non-fiction. Emphasis will be on improving reading, speaking, and writing skills, as well as developing the analytical thinker.
English Language Arts – Sec 5
Students will continue to be exposed to important authors and to the major genres in English literature: the short story, poetry, the essay, and other non-fiction. Emphasis will be on improving reading, speaking, and writing skills; on developing the analytical thinker; and on preparing students for CEGEP level English courses.
All grade 11 students will write an English Language Arts MEQ leaving exam in May.
