Visual Art

Visual Arts – Sec 1

The grade seven curriculum is designed for students to learn the basic notions of the visual arts such as: drawing from observation, proportions, shading and the elements of art (line, shape, form, space, texture, value, color). Throughout the short term in which they experience the visual arts, they will learn various art techniques and experiment with different basic materials. Students will also develop their critical thinking and their appreciation for the visual arts by discussing and criticizing the art works created by their peers. Students will be evaluated in 2 competencies throughout the art rotation and will be clearly given the criteria of evaluation at the beginning of each assignment and/or project.

Visual Arts – Sec 2

The visual arts program in grade 8 allows students to further develop their creative skills and is a continuation of the introductory grade 7 art course. Students will deepen their artistic knowledge through various in-class projects and assignments as well as in-class critiques and discussions. Students will be evaluated in 2 competencies (Creates Personal and Media Images, and Appreciates Images) throughout the year and will be clearly given the criteria of evaluation at the beginning of each assignment or project.

Visual Arts – Sec 3

The visual arts program in secondary 3 is designed to allow students who have acquired the basic knowledge of the art curriculum in cycle 1 to further develop their art skills. Students will enhance their creative skills and deepen their artistic knowledge through various in-class projects and assignments as well as in-class critiques and discussions. There are 2 competencies, Creates Personal and Media Images, and Appreciates Images, which will be evaluated each term, students will be informed and given the criteria for evaluation for each assignment and/or project. The first and second term will be a cumulative grade for the SEC 3 Visual Art course. Term 3 will be the final mark for the SEC 4 Visual Art course, which is the required Art course for the Quebec High School Diploma certification.

Visual Arts – Sec 4

The visual arts program in secondary 4 & 5 is designed to allow students to pursue their interests in the visual arts and deepen this artistic knowledge through various in-class projects and assignments as well as in-class critiques and discussions. Students will familiarize themselves with various artists from Canada as well as from other cultural backgrounds, different art movements and a variety of mediums used in the visual arts. They will be evaluated in 2 competencies, Creates Personal and Media Images, and Appreciates Images, throughout the year and will be clearly given the criteria of evaluation at the beginning of each assignment and/or project.

The visual arts program in secondary 5 is designed to allow students to pursue their interests in the visual arts and deepen this artistic knowledge through various in-class projects and assignments as well as in-class critiques and discussions. Students will familiarize themselves with various artists from Canada as well as from other cultural backgrounds, different art movements and a variety of mediums used in the visual arts. They will be evaluated in 2 competencies, Creates Personal and Media Images, and Appreciates Images, throughout the year and will be clearly given the criteria of evaluation at the beginning of each assignment and/or project.
