Stop Motion Animation

Between May 14-24th, select Grade 7 English classes worked on creating Stop Motion Animation videos with the help of plasticine, creativity, and Montreal artist, Erik Goulet. Their sessions with Mr. Goulet began with a history of animations and an overview of the unique challenges and advantages of Stop Motion. After a few tips and tricks, students were all set to go, and spent several classes modeling their sets, designing their characters, and writing their scripts. On May 24th, students then had 50 minutes to film their creations. Having just finished studying A Midsummer Night’s Dream, one group worked to recreate famous scenes from the play, while another drew inspiration from the comedy´s most hilarious moment (metamorphosis!). Sheep transformed to clouds, Titania fell in love with Bottom, a pimple became a butterfly, and Demetrius and Lysander just couldn´t quite duke it out in the enchanted woods. Students collaborated, laughed, and had a great time with a fun activity to wind down their year. Royal West would like to thank Mr. Goulet for the experience and energy he brought to the school, and can´t wait to see the finished movies!
